Canon 5D Mark III “Light Leak” Resolved: Will Start Shipping Again

Canon has responded to the “light leak” issues affecting the EOS 5D Mark III digital SLR camera. Products whose sixth digit in the serial number is 1 or 2 are affected. (e.g. “xxxxx1xxxxxx” or “xxxxx2xxxxxx” ([x] represents any optional number). Canon claims that the “light leak” problem will not affect your captured images. However, they are offering to inspect cameras free of charge starting mid-May. Residents of the United States and Puerto Rico should register their EOS 5D Mark III and sign up for the email notification. Canon will then notify you when service updates are available.
